Mama Gertie's was originally logging land, but it was purchased by the current owners and turned into a well planned campground catering to all campers: Big Rigs down to pop-up tent trailers, tent campers and those who prefer a cabin. And, the place is still growing. New sites opened up above the area where Rob and I are parked and the views up there are long reaching, taking in portions of the Blue Ridge Range; and, there are more sites to come. I'm sure they'll be ready for campers next season.
We took a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway heading back toward Boone. We got high enough in elevation, approximately 6,000 feet, to encounter hoarfrost and icicles. And it was beautiful. It reminded me of the ice storm I experienced as a teenager while living in New Jersey, which is still one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen—even though ice storms can be dangerous to body and property. I love the juxtaposition of the hoarfrost and fall colors that I was able to capture in several of my photographs. I hope you enjoy them.
